Crawfordsville, Ark. (October 22, 2012) – Jonathan Billings, a senior at Marion High School, has been named a C Spire Wireless Academic All-Stars Award winner.
Billings was one of six students in the Greater Memphis area who received this week’s award for General Scholarship. C Spire Wireless will recognize more than 160 students during the 2012-2013 school year. He and other weekly winners will be honored at a luncheon at the Hilton Memphis, Thursday, May 2, 2013.
Billings is a true scholar and the consummate gentleman. He holds a 4.0909 weighted grade point average and scored 27 on the ACT. Billings has taken every Advanced Placement class the school offers and earned all A’s while never missing an assignment or deadline. He also is a member of the marching band and the scoring leader on the school’s varsity golf team.
In addition, Billings has been inducted into the National Honor Society, the National Spanish Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta. He attended Arkansas Boys State in 2012. Musically, Billings earned All-Region Concert and Jazz Band honors six times and All-State Concert Band in 2012. He was selected head captain for the UCA Dixie Band Camp in 2013. He earned the 1st Chair trumpet in the school band.
The C Spire Wireless Academic All-Stars program was conceived to identify and recognize high school students for excellence in academics, school leadership and community service. Now in its 7th year, the C Spire Academic All-Stars Awards are presented weekly for 28 weeks during the academic year from nominations submitted by school administrators. Judges include educators from Rhodes College, The University of Memphis, LeMoyne-Owen College and Christian Brothers University. Each Sunday during the year, C Spire Academic All-Stars are announced in The Commercial Appeal.
